For its headquarters in Europe (Kallo), Lawter is looking for a:

 

INNOVATION APPLICATION ENGINEER (M/V/X)

 

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Take on the responsibility of subject matter expert in Innovation Projects to develop technologically sophisticated products from ideation to successful implementation.

The main responsibility of the Innovation Application Engineer will be to investigate new innovative materials and find unique applications by relating physical/chemical characteristics of polymers and related additives to performance in the intended end use.

The role is lab-based and conducting experiments and trials with polymer processing technologies constitutes the majority of the day-to-day work.

Hands-on experience with typical polymer processing methods, such as compounding, injection molding and extrusion is required. Experience with common thermal and mechanical characterization techniques of polymeric materials/plastics is required (tensile testing, DMTA, DSC, TGA and others). Knowledge of molecular characterization techniques, such as GPC, FTIR, NMR is highly desirable. 

Experience with or willingness to learn about sustainable plastics, such as biobased, biodegradable, and recycled plastics and a circular plastics economy.

The Innovation Application Engineer will actively contribute to identify gaps between internal capabilities and new product's requirements and contribute to solving problems.

Maintain high level of knowledge and awareness of regulatory standards and regulations. Gather technical intelligence by reading published literature, patents and press releases and attending conferences and tradeshows.

Conduct specification and feasibility analysis on new products and processes.

Present project updates using PowerPoint and other presentation software. Regular reporting in English is required.

Conduct business activities in accordance with Company policy, EH&S, Sustainability strategy, and Business Ethics.

Performance of other duties as required by supervisor.

 

Education/Experience:

MS or Bachelor degree in Polymer Science Engineering, Materials Science or related field.

Experience in Polymer Processing and Characterization is required.

Experience in a product development role is preferable.

 

 

Skills and abilities:

Ability to work and communicate in an office, professional lab environment and a plant-manufacturing environment. Travel may be required as needed with minimal global travel.

Good English oral and written communication skills are required.

Mathematical skills: at a level consistent with stated degree.

Reasoning ability: must be able to think through complex issues analytically, even in difficult, emotionally charged situations. Must be able to analyze multiple causes and solutions to complex problems; Must be able to maintain a clear sense of perspective, seeing different aspects of a problem and then focusing on the key issues. Must be able to develop and hold a clear understanding of priorities. Must be able to work in a multicultural cross-functional and multidisciplinary environment.

Ability to manage own assignments on schedule and in accordance with project.
